IntelliWaste, Inc. is an industry leader in providing innovative waste management consulting services. Our waste management specialists have worked in virtually all areas of solid waste management, performing numerous waste management consulting engagements for both public and private sector clients across the country. They have extensive experience in solid waste operations and financial planning, financing resource recovery, and other alternative disposal projects, as well as experience in hazardous waste management and environmental legislation. Their backgrounds include experience in engineering, environmental management, landfill design, landfill closure, rate design, and facility costing.

BRUCE J. MURPHY, PRINCIPAL

Bruce J. Murphy has been working in the waste management industry for more than 30 years. He has combined his unique and extensive background in operational and financial analysis in the waste industry to launch IntelliWaste, Inc. in 1996. His mission is to provide high quality assessments, reporting, and value-added consulting services for both municipal and private clients. ​

2014-2017 Area Senior Manager, Municipal Waste, West, Republic Services (Richmond, CA)
Provided leadership, support and expertise to Area Managers, Division Managers and General Managers to design and implement sales strategies for new and renewing municipal sales opportunities throughout Northern California, and Southern Nevada. Responsible for all municipal sales-related activities within the Area to improve and maintain organization, consistency and comprehensiveness of related policies, programs and systems.

Managed an annual municipal book of business of over $700 million dollars. Leadership of 10 municipal managers. Achievements include retention of over $65 Million annually in municipal contract through competitive bidding. Co-developer and content expert of corporate initiative to standardize proposal documents using templates based on my successful response to proposals.

1996-2014 Principal & Owner, IntelliWaste, Inc. (Novato, CA)
An industry leader in providing a unique combination of technical, operational and financial solid waste management consulting services. In-depth current industry knowledge of waste management collection, recycling, transfer station, material recovery facility (MRF) and disposal operations. Has performed numerous waste management consulting engagements for both public and private sector clients across the U.S. Prior engagement experience spans a broad range of technical, financial and regulatory/legal topics.

1995-1996 Director, Waste Management Services, Public Auditing, Deloitte & Touche LLP (Oakland, CA)
Solid Waste industry practice Director. Responsible for business development and implementation of engagement projects including Performance Auditing & Review; Productivity Improvement; Cost-of-Service Studies; Regulatory Rate Reviews; Financial Feasibility; Public/Private Partnership Consulting and Litigation Support. Authored internal Deloitte publication on public-private partnerships. 

Select clients include Norcal Waste Systems (Recology), Burrtec Industries; Western Waste; Allied Waste (Republic Services); San Diego County; City of San Diego; Kings County, WA; Salinas Valley WMA; and City of Atlanta, GA. 

1984-1995 Director, Waste Management Services; Principal, The PRA Group (Hayward, CA)
Directed and supervised an integrated geotechnical engineering team of over 100 FTE's in the design and development of new landfill sites, landfill expansions and closure, permitting and acquisition of major regional and metropolitan landfills for Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI) aka Republic Services, including Newby Island in San Jose, California 4,000 tons per day (tpd); proposed Aponolio Canyon (new site), San Mateo County, CA.; Corinda Los Trancos Landfill in San Mateo County, CA (2,500 tpd); Vasco Road in Livermore, CA (1,900 tpd), Sunshine Canyon City Landfill in Sylmar, CA (6,600 tpd); Sunshine Canyon County Landfill (new site), Sylmar, CA (17,000 tpd); Proposed Eagle Mountain Site Landfill, Riverside County, CA (20,000 tpd); Chateau Fresno Landfill, Fresno, CA (1,200 tpd); Chestnut Avenue Landfill, Fresno County, CA (1,000 tpd).

Achievements included successful permitting of the first Subtitle D liner system in Northern California; ground breaking, peer-reviewed technical publications on landfill slope stability and settlement theory; pioneered high density compaction methods that is in wide spread usage in the industry; assisted in the design of several of the first material recovery facility (MRF) operations in California.

Mr. Murphy has also been involved with many nationally recognized projects including the Waste Isolation Storage projects for the Department of Energy at the Nevada Test Site (DOE/NTS) where he held a top secret Q clearance; site selection and design of 17 solution mined petroleum and gas storage caverns in salt, Strategic Petroleum Reserve Department of Energy (SPR-DOE) in Texas and Louisiana; and site characterization of 5 geothermal power plants and ancillary facilities at the Geysers Geothermal Field, California.
